Infants - Daffodils

(6 months –1½ years)

We create a calm, caring, and stimulating environment for babies to develop and learn. The environment has been specially designed to stimulate your baby’s senses and to create a safe, clean and calm home away from home. Resources are laid out so they can be reached by the children and have been specifically selected to stimulate all of their senses.

We will initially follow the routine that your baby has established at home and work in partnership with you to adapt this as they grow. Parents are required to complete an ‘all about me’ information sheet which will ensure that our dedicated staff are aware of any particular needs of your baby. We will communicate with you, daily detailing your baby’s eating patterns, activities during the day, nappy changing times and sleep times. We will also invite you to inform us of any changes that occur at home.

Toddlers - Rosebuds

(1 ½ –2 ½ years)

We have designed our toddler room to allow your child the maximum potential for activity and learning. Each child’s daily routine incorporates activities that encourage creative and physical development, and their progress is well-documented by the staff team.

Your toddler can engage in creative play using malleable materials, sand and water, textures for experimentation, sensorial development, and mark making using a range of different materials.

Creative play is an important part of your child’s development and is therefore incorporated into the routine on a daily basis. Our babies and toddler rooms include baby changing facilities.

Preschool - Orchids

Orchids (3 – 4 years)

Our pre-school classroom is a happy place full of friends where your child can be themselves. It is a place full of interesting things to do, but also a place where your child can take time out and just be quiet if they want to be.

The layout of the classroom encourages exploration, communication and the development of relationships on all levels. The children are able to access all of the toys and equipment themselves to promote independent learning through play.

Reception - Sunflowers

Sunflowers (4 – 5 years)

Our Reception classrooms provide a slightly more challenging environment for children from the age of three. In Reception One child can engage in creative activities, role-play, sand and water play, numeracy activities, mark-making, construction and small world play.

The curriculum followed in Reception continues to be based upon the areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Each day has a number of pre-planned focused activities that either reflects the children’s current interests, the current topic or time of the year.

Throughout the reception stage of education, your child will start learning through play. They will be busy exploring and discovering a range of exciting activities both in and out of the classroom, making new friendships, listening to stories and taking their first steps into a world of learning.

Year 1 - Tulips

Tulips (5 – 6 years)

Year 1 is for children 5-6 years old. Leaving Reception behind and moving into Year 1 can feel like a big step for both children and their parents, but a good school will make the transition an easy one.

This year will see your child embark on the first steps of the National Curriculum and work towards the aims and objectives set out for Key Stage 1. Nevertheless, your child will still be learning through play, they will still be exploring and discovering their learning in a similar manner to reception.

However, there will be a focus on learning to read using phonics this year with a statutory phonics screening check in June of the academic year.

Year 2 - Lillies

Tulips (6 - 7 years)

Year 2 is for children 6–7 years old and is the last year of Key Stage 1. As your child continues through this year, there will be a continued focus on phonics and developing their skills further in writing and maths – exploring new concepts, developing their writing stamina and ensuring they have opportunities to work with more independence in preparation for the transition to Year 3.

At the end of Year 2, all pupils will take SATs in reading, SPaG (spelling, punctuation, and grammar), and maths.

Year 3 - Daisies

Tulips (7 - 8 years)

Key Stage 2 syllabus is the phase of primary school for children in year 3, year 4, year 5 and year 6. Sometimes divided into Lower KS2 (LKS2) – years 3 and 4, and Upper KS2 (UKS2) – years 5 and 6. It’s formerly known as ‘Juniors’.

At Daffodils, we are currently offering Key Stage 2 for Year 3. This stage is for children 7–8 years old, and this stage marks the end of Key Stage 1 as your child enters Key Stage 2 as a Junior. The move to Key Stage 2 allows your child to engage in a broad and balanced curriculum, with less focus on phonics and early maths and reading.

The children will start to develop their knowledge of History, Geography, Science and other subjects, only covered in KS2, like learning a new language. Furthermore, there will be greater emphasis on understanding and learning spelling rules and importantly, in maths, your child will be using more formal methods of calculation than in previous years.
